Restraining and Protective Orders

A family violence protective order is a civil order that provides protection if a family or household member is hurting you or threatens to hurt you.  A protective order is a written statement from a court that tells the abuser to stop the abuse or face serious legal consequences. It offers civil legal protection from domestic violence to both male and female victims.

A protective order can be issued after a court hearing in which the victim and the abuser each have an opportunity to tell their respective side of the story. Protective orders typically are valid for up to one year, but can be extended for up to three years, or permanently.

The attorneys at Shadrix, Lane & Parmer, P.C. have been successful in obtaining protective orders from Georgia courts.
